Self Propelled Flail Mower
We build a self-propelled flail mower for orchard weed control, straw mulching and wasteland clearing - a walk-behind machine that cuts vines, chops stalks and lays the residue back on the soil without you pushing the whole way. A differential drive chassis turns tight in narrow rows, and a fixed pre-cut blade keeps long grass from winding around the rotor.
The mower comes gasoline as standard, with single-cylinder air-cooled diesel as an upgrade for long working hours. You choose the cutting width, the engine power, recoil or electric start, and we spec the rest. This self-propelled flail mower is built to chew through citrus, apple, cherry and vineyard rows, as well as post-harvest corn and peanut stubble.
Key Features
- Differential steering chassis: pivot turns and U-turns in narrow orchard rows without pushing hard.
- Fixed blade plus flail hammer blades: vines and long weeds are cut short first, then shredded - far less rotor wrapping and chamber clogging.
- Adjustable cutting height via the front support wheel: set stubble height so shallow tree roots stay protected.

- Thick enclosed cutting chamber: mulch falls back in fine, even particles straight onto the soil.
- Deep-tread off-road rear tyres for traction on mud and gentle slopes.
- Reversible high-manganese steel flail blades: flip a worn edge for a second life, or swap them out with standard bolts.
- Optional deflector, collection hopper, spare blade sets and anti-slip steel wheels.

Application Scenarios
This flail mower earns its keep across several field jobs. In orchards it shreds row weeds, climbing vines and fallen branches between citrus, peach, apple, kiwi and grape vines. After harvest it chops corn stalks, peanut vines, sweet potato vines and wheat or rice straw into mulch. On abandoned plots and hillsides it clears wild weeds and young shrubs before re-cultivation. It also fits greenhouses, seedling nurseries and farm-resort green belts where a tractor cannot reach.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is the difference between this machine and flail attachments for ordinary power tillers?
A: This self-propelled flail mower adopts independent differential walking chassis with built-in driving power instead of relying on separate tiller units. It delivers much better turning flexibility and comes standard with anti-wrap fixed blades, specially optimized for orchard weeding performance.
Q2: Will wet grass and climbing vines wrap the cutting rotor?
A: Thanks to the fixed pre-cut blade assembly, long grass and vines are cut short before entering the shredding chamber. It greatly reduces rotor tangling and chamber blockage during daily orchard operation. This is the core upgrade feature designed for fruit growing areas.
Q3: Should I choose gasoline or diesel model?
A: Select the 170F gasoline unit if you work less than 3 hours each day and prioritize light weight and easy cold startup. If you manage large continuous orchards, frequently process thick stalks or conduct wasteland reclamation for long hours, diesel versions deliver lower fuel consumption and stronger torque.
Q4: How to choose between 40cm and 50cm working width?
A: 40cm width fits orchards with narrow row spacing for superior passability. Choose 50cm width for open farmland and wasteland if higher working coverage and efficiency are your priority.
Q5: Can the machine work normally on slopes and muddy land without slipping?
A: Equipped with deep pattern off-road rear tyres, it provides reliable traction on gentle slopes and moist farmland. Anti-slip steel wheels are optional for extremely steep terrain.
Q6: Is blade replacement complicated after wear?
A: Blades are fixed with standard bolts for simple disassembly. Each flail blade is reversible; you can flip worn edges to extend service life. Original spare blades are universal and easy to source locally.
Q7: Can you support OEM private branding and custom paint colours?
A: Full OEM service is available. We adjust body colour, printed LOGO, dimension specification, engine power and cutting width as required by bulk orders.
Q8: Can shredded weeds and straw be directly returned to farm soil?
A: The machine produces evenly crushed residues that lay evenly on the ground. Organic material decomposes quickly under rainfall, improving soil fertility and inhibiting new weed germination. It is widely adopted in sustainable orchard grass management systems.
